I bought four Hitec servos in March, and installed them in my model airplane. When I flew the plane, the control surfaces wouldn't accurately return to the neutral position. This meant that every time I deflected a surface, the radio system had to be re-centered. I've been flying model airplanes for 36 years, and have never had this happen.
I thought I might be doing somethng wrong, since these were "digital" servos, so I called Hitec. They told me there was an electronic modification that needed to be made to the servos, and to send them to Hitec to be fixed. I sent them to the factory, and received them back about two weeks later.
When I connected the servos to the radio system, they still did not center, or return to neutral accurately. I called Hitec and spoke to their service manger Tony, who told me the modification they had made on the servos would not solve the problem I was having. I knew that by then, as I still had servos that didn't work correctly. He told me to send the servos back to them, and they would check them out.
I specifically told Tony that I was concerned that I was nearing the end of 30 day return policy that most retailers have for products. He said "don't worry about that, you go through us on that, we'll work with you, we'll make it right." I took him at his word and returned the servos to Hitec.
I received them back from Hitec a few weeks later, and they again did not work correctly. I called Tony at Hitec and he offered two solutions. They would exchange the four I had for an "upgraded model", and charge me twice the price of the servos I had purchased. I didn't like that option. The other option was to trade the four servos I had for two that would work correctly. I suggested he trade my four for either three or four units that worked, and I was called unreasonable.
Weeks later I was contacted by Hitec's promotions director Mike, who offered me the same options that I had previously been offered, and I declined. He asked me what I wanted, and I told him I wanted four digital servos that worked. He told me I was being unreasonable, and that I would not get that from Hitec. I suggested he give me my money back, and he said that was more unreasonable.
Four months into this, I took Hitec to court to let a judge decide who was reasonable. He reviewed the case & I was awarded a judgment against Hitec. They have been notified by certifed mail twice, and have refused to follow the COURT ORDER to satisfy the judgment. Consider that when you look for a company to do business with. They won't even listen to a judge, and are going to have a lein placed on their assets because they refuse to follow a court order. Imagine if you don't have time to battle with them over a couple of hundred dollars...
