Vonage reps lie and scheme to cheat you out of money

I am active duty military and saw Vonage as an easy way for family to keep in contact with me 3 years ago. Now that the telecommunications market has changed and all included unlimited long distance is a standard Vonage wasn't worth the price to me. I called just prior to the end of my billing cycle at the beginning of July to cancel my Vonage account and see if I owed anything.

As I had the account for over 2 years I had no additional responsibilities but they said I shouldn't close the account as I may decide to keep it. I told the rep that I wanted to close it because as we were moving we would not have access to it for 30 60 days anyway. The rep then offered me 2 free months (July and Aug) because I wouldn't use it anyway and then I could call in Sept to either cancel it or keep the service and phone number. We stupidly decided that a big company like Vonage must be trustworthy and took them up on their offer.

I called the beginning of this month (Sept) as planned deciding that we didn't need the service and planning to cancel the account. They told me I owed them for July and August and that I had never called in July. Furthermore they never offer free months of service. They checked their system and agreed I did not place a single call during the time period and received very few that all went to voice mail and were not checked. They stated that because I had the option of using the service they had to charge me. If I agreed to reactivate my service they would waive $50 of my $65 bill but charge me another $25 for the following month.

The best part as my credit card they had on record luckily expired prior to the months in question they had no way to bill me so they reported me to a collection agency.

I am currently writing to their bill dispute office as that is the only way to contact and dispute a bill but expect to take it in the pants. How do I clear this from my credit I wonde
