Electronics and household app.

The following is a copy of an e-mail I sent to every department at the Circuit City Web site. At the time of this writing I still have not heard anything from Circuit City

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this message as a very unsatisfied, angry, supposed, customer. My situation is easy to explain. On January 21 I thought I purchased a "3dfx V5500" video accelerater card for my computer when I really purchased an EMPTY BOX. Upon bringing the situation to the attention of YOUR Customer Service Department I was told that the matter would require investigation and would take 2-3 business days.

The Customer Service Representative, whose name I was sure to record, then took my name and phone number and told me he would contact me with a staus report. After the 3rd business day without hearing anything, Wednesday 24, I decided to call YOUR store. Unable to speak to the original rep. I told my story to the rep. I spoke to, whose name I was sure to record, and was told that he would take care of the matter. He then proceeded to take my name and phone number and said he would get back me. After NOT HEARING from either Representative of YOUR COMPANY I decided to call back and spoke to another DIFFERENT REPRESENTATIVE OF YOUR COMPANY whom said he was in charge of the other 2 representives and that he would handle the matter.

He then proceeded to take my name and phone number and told me he would get back to me. Well, guess what, after not hearing from ANYBODY by FRIDAY, January 26, I again decided to call back. The other Representatives of YOUR COMPANY were out sick and, again, I spoke to a different representative of YOUR COMPANY who also decided to take my name and phone number and was told that somebody would get back to me. Naturally, seeing the way YOUR COMPANY operates, I have not heard from ANYBODY. I now feel compelled to inform you that I will bring this matter up with MY ATTORNEY.

I will also Inform you that I am prepared to send a copy of an abbreviated acount of my dealings with CIRCUIT CITY to every NEWSPAPER/MAGAZINE/FRIEND I can find. And thanks to the power of the INTERNET I have acquired a list of about 4,000 newspapers, 2,500 magazines, and about 300 of my closest friends on ICQ, IRC, YAHOO MESSENGER, AOL, WORLDNET IM, and NEWSGROUPS. A copy of the letter follows. And, FYI, the STORE NUMBER IS: 4101 and all the Peoples' names from YOUR COMPANY are recorded BY ME but shall remain anonymous in the letter. Also, considering past experience with YOUR COMPANY, I DON'T EXPECT A RESPONSE FROM THIS E-MAIL.

BUYER BEWARE! ESPECIALLY AT CIRCUIT CITY. This a true account and it happened to me. I recently purchased a "3dfx V5500" Video Accelerater Card for my computer from CIRCUIT CITY. What I really bought was an EMPTY BOX. I took the EMPTY BOX back into the store, not 10 minutes after I purchased it, and told the clerk who sold it to me the situation. He then instructed me to take the matter to Customer Service. Customer Service informed me that it would take 2-3 business days to "Investigate" the matter and that somebody would get back to me.

He then took my name and phone number. Naturally, I thought, the matter would be cleared up considering that I am an honest, tax paying citizen. Boy, was I wrong! Not only did "Someone" NOT contact me within 2-3 business days but in the following week I have spoken with not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but 5 DIFFERENT "Customer Service Representatives" (God Bless the fifth Rep. Who was a teenager working the weekend, with absolutely no idea what to do about this) of CIRCUIT CITY. Each one stating that they would take care of the matter. Each one taking my name and phone number and each one stating that they would get back to me with the status of the matter.

Two of the Representatives actually stated that they were in charge and that they would handle the matter personnally. Needless to say, at the writing of this letter, nothing has happened and I have the feeling that I have just been RIPPED OFF. I am out $211.00 and have no product to show for it. I feel like I have just bought an EMPTY BOX from some guy in a back alley and he is now long gone. The purpose of this letter should be clear. The ONLY way to avoid this situation, especially at CIRCUIT CITY, is to have the Clerk, or Salesperson, or even the Customer Service Department, open the package you are purchasing, or about to purchase, and this is important, "BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE STORE", and check the contents inside. And if you're buying HIGH END ELECTRONICS you might also want them to TEST it to make sure it works.

God forbid you should plug in your new Video Card, or Memory Chip or Monitor and it doesn't work. Chances are they will say YOU broke it and not refund your money. This also includes products that say "Cables Included" or "Batteries Included" or even "Contains 1,000 Pieces". Listen to a victim and learn from my mistakes. You don't want to be out HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS and not have anything to show for it. Please, "buyer beware!!
