New Phone Rebate Deal Secretly Renewed Contract for a Year

I went to an ATT outlet store to buy a replacement battery for a Nokia 5165 cellular phone. The customer service person told me it would be cheaper to buy a new phone that had a rebate. I thought it was a good deal. The service person never told me she was going to renew my contract for another year.

I got slammed without any notification that this offer requires a one year renewal. I called ATT customer care to find out about my existing contract and they said it was renewed 38 days ago which I new nothing about. In addition, this customer service person was rude and inconsiderate to me and did not go out of her way to resolve the problem. I was told that I had the new phone for more than 30 days and would have to discuss that with the manager of the store where the transaction took place.

I have never been treated like this before by ATT, I have been a customer of theirs for more than 15 years. This an example of a company that is desperate for business and is exploiting its existing end users to maintain its revenue goals. I will make sure they do not do this to anyone else. Watch them closely..
