Circuit City Manager Stephen
Infuriate and intimidate Ripoff

Electronics and household app.

I purchased a lap top computer a Sanyo Vaio from Circuit City 8/5/07 from their Sunday circular by telephone applying the purchase against my visa debit card.

On Wednesday 8/8/07 I went to pick the unit up at Circuit City Vero Beach location when trouble started. The box was badly torn up and dented and was not sealed. I looked at the box and indicated to the sales associate that they must think I'm kidding if I would accept a lap top in such condition. I then requested they either locate another within the store or order yet another unit.

The associate went and brought the "last unit" in the store to the pick up counter. Although, this box now had some lame tape closing the box the unit also appeared banged up. I requested permission from the associate to open the box and inspect the correlation of damage with the computer in the box. I was told it would be alright to inspect the lap top. Upon placing the box flat I discovered yet another substantial gash and dent in the bottom of the box unfortunately, on the side of which the lap top was postioned. I requested the presence of the store manager at this time. Might I add he already had yet another disgruntled customer at the counter.

When I asked Stephen acting store manager what happened to the lap tops all he could tell me was that they came off the truck that way. I was also informed by Stephen that I would now have to pay a restocking charge as I had opened the damaged packaging surrounding the lap top which amounted to almost $98.00 from a $700.00 purchase. I was in absolute disbelief of how Stephen was managing this whole situation.

I pointed out to Stephen that these units could have fallen off the back of a truck for all we knew and being that it was sensitive electronic equipment which might I add was poorly packaged in cardboard as opposed to styrofoam which is generally used when packaging electronics there might be problems with the unit. I asked him point blank "If you were the customer would you accept a lap top in this condition?" I then proceeded to shake the box sitting on the counter where you could hear the contents shifting around. Stephen's answer was at least true and correct and he agreed that he would not accept either unit. He then instructed the junior associate to waive the re-stocking charge at which point I was issued a full refund.

Now that I have seen the information re: Circuit City I can't help but wonder what the history is off these lap tops. I'm sure Sony would love to know that there relatively good product name is being implicated.
