Lied about changing my cell number and canceling my phone service Ripoff nextel.com california

In december I purchased a i880 phone for my wife this was the fourth phone and service that I had with sprintnextel, a few weeks later I decided to disconnect one of the phones which contract had already had expired so I called sprintnextel had then disconnect the phone and in the process of doing this I ask customer sirvice (same person who was doing the disconnecting) if it was possible to move the number I was canceling to the i880 I had purchased for my wife and to cancel the number that came with the i880 csr asked me why I want to do that and said because my daughter was moving out and she wasn't going to be able to pay for the phone any more, after she heard my story then she said that there wasn't going be any problem and then she tranfered me to the tech support and they took me thru the steps to change the number on my i880, I was able to change the number from my daughter's phone into my wife's i880 with no problem, an hour late I decided to call sprintnextel again to make sure they had cancel the number which came in i880 so that later they would come out some type of surprise on my billing and they say yes that the number that came on the i880 was canceled, after I hang up with the csr I dial the number that came with the i880 that I purchased and it was no longer working. A month went by and all of the sudden my wife's phone was diconected I called sprintnextel to find out why the phone was disconneted and they told that I had canceled the service a month ago and that was the reason why they had diconnected the service I explained to her (csr) that I had switch the old number to the i880 and also explainded to her all over againg of what steps were taken to change the phone number the month before, she checked my account and told that there was no record of me changing the old number into the i880 plus nobody at sprintnextel was allowed to do this process. I did get kind of upset because my wife had already been using the old number for a month and there had not been any problems, then I had once again to explain why I wanted the number that my daugher had in her phone and asked her if that would be possible, then she tranfered me to tech support I once again had to explain what had happen a month before mean while about two hour had already gone by and nothing had be done, at this point and time i realize that I had made a mistake by trying to change the old number into my wife's i880, finally they tranfer me to another csr and she told me that I couldn't have the old number because there were other customers waiting for that kind of number, then she wrote my personal number down because she said she was going to do everything possible to see if some how I could get the number again and she will call me back withing 24 hour, which it never happened. I finally gave up I didn't want to deal with them any more and I was glad she did not call me back because I was tired of dealing with them. Later that week I decided to call back and ask that since the number the came with i880 had been diconnected for a month if I was going to get charge for it and again the checked my account and they had no record showing that the number that came with the i880 had been disconnected so now I have to pay for a phone number which I didn't have. My question is how can these big corporations get away with this? It seems that they don't have any type of regulations againt costumer fruad. Right now I'm thinking of just paying the early termination fee on my three phones that I have with them and move to another phone oompany.
