Circuit City
Asst. Mgr refused to refund item never delivered

In May of 1999 I purchased a home and went to Circuit City at I610 and San Felipe in Houston to buy a refrigerator. The salesperson sold me a $1000.00 refrigerator and scheduled delivery. I arranged to take off from work on the day of delivery, but the evening before at 7:30 pm I received an automated call stating the delivery was for two days later and was provided a number to call.

The number I was given was not active after 7:00 pm - thirty minutes before I received the call. I went to the Circuit City store to find out why the delivery was changed. The asst mgr said it was because of inventory. I asked why they were not aware of the inventory conflict three days prior when the purchase was made. She told me "that's how it is". I requested a refund and told her I would go to Sears. She replied "you don't have to get nasty". I told her that I had not become nasty yet, but that it could be arranged and to please just shut up and refund the refrigerator.

She continued to stare at me and wasn't refunding the item. I snapped my fingers and said "give me my card, I'll do this elsewhere". She said don't snap at me and then I screamed and cursed at her until every customer in the store came to gawk. I went to another Circuit City and got the item refunded without incident. I then went to Sears and bought the same item for the same price and have been very pleased.

In the last year I have spent $7500.00 on appliances and electronics for my new home, NONE OF IT AT CIRCUIT CITY. A year later I still haven't stepped inside of a Circuit City and never will. Where a consumer spends their money is the only power they have. A lesson Circuit City would do well to learn. Not that it matters, but the asst mgr's name was Tilda.
