Defective product & refusal to honor repair bill after promising to pay

Electronics and household app.

I purhased a new Panasonic Standard Cassette Transcriber for slightly more than $200 from an office supply store. Less than 3 months later, I took it back to the store because the foot pedal and the rewind and forward hand control buttons quit working.

Fortunately, a salesperson replaced it for me with another from the shelf. Less than 2 months after that, that transcriber quit working just like the other had. This time, the salesperson I got said I'd have to deal with Panasonic.

Checked Panasonic's web site for address of an approved repair service center. Took transcriber to approved center. At my request, representative from center called Panasonic before repairing to make sure they would pay. Panasonic said they would.

A few weeks later, the repair center called to say that Panasonic had refused to honor their promise and would not pay the bill.

We called Panasonic ourselves, but were also refused. The bill wasn't much to them surely, but a lot to me. I hope the $32 bill they refused to pay, the one I'm telling the readers of this message about now, will multiply in lost business. Perhaps, they should re-examine their company's values and decide if they want to be known for integrity or dishonesty.
