I order a Pentax Digital SLR for $520 plus shipping. A couple days later I received a call "confirming" my order. It was really a sales call. The salesman (Alan) told me that my camera needed batteries. I told him that according to the Pentax website that the camera should come with batteries and that even if it didn't it would use 4 AA batteries. He was able to convince me that this wasn't the case and that for $120 more I could get the batteries and rapid charger. My card was now charged for $699.99 ($30 more than authorized).

I was able to verify that the camera should come with batteries and that AA would work so I tried contacting Alan again but never received a response to my e-mails or voice mails. A couple of days later he called back to tell me my model was out-of-stock but he could sell me a "better" version for $20 more. At this time I verified that batteries did come with the camera and that he would be taking them off my invoice. It turns out the camera isn't better, in fact it's actually a lesser model. Also, instead of crediting my card for the difference of the batteries and the upgrade they charged me another $49.99.

After calling and asking for a complete refund I was told about a $74.99 restocking fee (they are even trying to charge me a restocking fee based on the shipping expense). I expressed my concern over there sales practices, reported them to the BBB, and I'm disputing the overcharge with my credit card company. The bottom line is that this isn't an isolated incident and this company should be avoided!!
