Ibook G4 laptop is a ripoff

I purchased an ibook G4 about a year and 1 month ago. The logic board failed recently. I get vertical lines on the screen and the laptop is hardly functional anymore.

Applecare support technicians said that I would have to pay a $49 diagnostic fee along with whatever repair cost.

This is pathetic given that I NEVER had a laptop with logic board failure. My IBM thinkpad purchased in 1999 runs fine today.

If apple has to make pathetic hardware, they should clearly that the laptop would just last for a year. Renting a laptop for a year is much cheaper than buying it.
