Ripoff I just feel robbed and taken advantage of

I had my Cell phone through US Cellular for over 2 years. I was on a monthly payment plan for my contract had ran out. Well I lost my cell phone so I called up US Cellular to have it turned off (July). They did and told me I had 60 day's to claim the insurance and get a new phone to have my service turned back on. Well I decided not to get a new phone a let it go. I was paid up and everything.
The problem is that for some reason after 6 months later US Cellular reactivated my account and started billing me. I called them up when I noticed I had been billed for over 2 months worth of service that I didn't know I had. I don't even have a cell phone right now!!!
They told me in December they audited some costumer accounts and relized that my account should be activated.
I pleaded with US Cellular that there had to be a mistake, that I didn't know I had service nor did I know I was being billed, and to check my number for any usage. They said the number had never been used! I then asked if they could wipe the bill clean because it was some costumer-retailer misunderstanding.
They the costumer service reps would ask if I wanted a new phone and stay with US Cellular. I said I have no reason to own a cell phone at this time but maybe some day in the future yes. Thats when they all would say well sir, you owe us $82, pay it or it will go to collections... Period! End of reasonning from thier side.
Needless to say this just went on my credit reprt today and I'm a little mad about it. I just feel robbed and taken advantage of. What can I do???
