Unusable Blue Ray / DVD player sold by Panasonic

During a recent conference in the US, we had to purchase a Blue Ray/DVD player for use on our exhibition stand. The Panasonic retailer told me that this machine is inter-operable globally. When getting back to South Africa, it transpired that the Blue Ray and DVD region codes are incorrect for SA. Such codes can normally be changed by the relevant service personnel, however the Panasonic service agent in Gauteng refuses to do so, citing a lack of ability to perform this task. I now have paid good money for an unusable Panasonic player.
