Ripoff charges made on a closed account

In October I closed a captal one bank card. I paid the account in full and closed the account. On 2-28 I receieved a phone call about the ballance on this card. I exsplained that there could not be a charge on the card because the account was closed. The represenitive stated that the account has been charged in Nov and that I was responcible for all charges and fees including over limit and late fees. I tried to exsplain that I had closed the account. I was told that as long as charges were being made on the card and the card showed a balance I could not close the card. What if anything can I do?
