J K Harris ripoff resolution of tax problem ended with no service provided

We signed a contract for JKHarris to resolve our problems with the IRS. This contract was signed on 3/28/01 with a payment plan to be paid out by the end of 2001. The total paid was $5,500.00.

We called periodically to check progress of our account. We were told that they were waiting to get a summary from the IRS of what we owed. There was delay after delay until January and a IRS agent contacted us directly and said that JKHarris was contacted and this company refused to return the calls made to them. The agent was very angry and accused me of ignoring them.

I called JkHarris and they finally sent met forms and assigned me to one their office in SanAntonio to a Mr. Chappell.

I was sent forms to fill out and return to JKHarris and to the IRS. These forms was completed and returned promptly and I was promised many times that the Offer in Compromise would be completed shortly. This promise was made and never kept by JkHarris. Mr. Chappell finally admitted to my wife that he did not have the time to complete all the OIC's assigned to him.

Finally, in July 7 I suffered a nervous breakdown and lost my lost my job and my financial situation changed drastically. My 401K was assessable to the IRS because I had to assess my savings to live on.

My wife told Mr. Chappell of our situation and he said that even though he had promised us that he would get our OIC out soon, it was no way he could get it done as promised.

We contacted a tax attorney and within 10days an IOC was mailed with the information we already prepared for JK Harris. We asked for a refund of $5,500.00 from JKHarris to no avail.
