Unauthorized charge on credit card

On December 30 MWI*Galleria made an unauthorized credit card charge on my wife's Visa card for the sum of 96.00 dollars. This was noted when the Visa statement was received on 17 January. A phone call to the customer service rep for the credit card company was made and the current card was cancelled.

An internet check was made and scores of complaints were found, clearly showing that this is common practice with the Company. Subsequent phone calls to the 800 number were found to be ineffective as it appeared to be impossible to speak to a live person. One needed an account number to connect and if you didn't have one you were requested to enter your phone number. When this was done you were given an account number, I suppose that if you weren't a member before, you are now.

Acall was initiated to the Credit card company and a supervisor was requested who informed us that since we were contesting the charge what procedure should be followed. At this time we had decided that the only place that the card number could have been obtained by MWI was from the credit card company and despite their assurance that they were not at fault, the card was cancelled. They could not assure us that MWI could not charge to the new card even if it was not activated by us. So much for Credit Card security and privacy.

We will continue to pursue this matter but I believe that in the end we will pay the bill to protect our credit rating and MWI will continue to bilk the public.
