Education & Science

I found three unauthorized charges of $14.95 each on my bank statement. The first was attributed to "AP9*Privacy Matters 800-346-0817" on 11/30/07; the second was for "AP9*PMIdentity.com" on 12/24/07; and the third was for "AP9*Protect Plus 800-211-9749" on 12/27/07.

I reached their customer service today (12/31/07) at 800-211-9749 and spoke with David. I asked what kind of company they were. He said that their members get an opportunity to purchase gift cards at 20% discount, receive roadside assistance, and are offered financial security through online credit reports. I told David that I did not apply or sign up for any of these services and I am not interested in membership. I asked how they got my information and charged my account.

David asked for my name and zip code, which I gave. He could not find me in the system, but, at my request, he put me onto Pablo, a manager. Pablo wanted me to give more information. He said they could not research the problem without receiving my full 16-digit credit card number. I refused to give my credit card number, only giving the last 4 digits. He said there was nothing he could do, and I should check with my bank.

I advised Pablo that I contacted my bank before calling him, and that he should take their fax number to fax the information they needed to verify the transaction. He stated that at the location where he was he had no ability to make outside calls or call fax numbers. I asked where he was and he said Montreal, Canada. I asked for an address and he gave: "P.O. Box 5152, Des Plaines, IL 60017." He said there was no street address available. The web address he gave was: www.23protectplus123.com.

I also asked Pablo who is "PMIdentity"; he recognized the company as part of their operation and says that service offers online credit reports. I asked how often do members have to pay the $14.95 fee and he said monthly. I then inquired why I had received two $14.95 charges, three days apart from PM Identity and from 24Protect Plus to provide the same credit reporting service. He had no answer for that.

I asked Pablo for his last name, and he said he could not give out that information, but his employee ID was 26466. Pablo refused to give me their email address or any further information, and said he could not help me further.

This operation is a big ripoff. I did not request or sign up for this service. They have invaded my bank account, and may perhaps have my identity information. I will probably have to change all of my records now.

Beware of this company — pay attention to the many names they use. Everyone beware!
