Failure to give information to account will settle for less money where did they get the amount?

Got a letter saying I owed $65000 for a credit card. I am 25 years old and have never had a credit card with that much credit. I called them and they couldn't give me the name of company that just it was a Visa and that I made the last payment on November.

I went through my old bank receipts from 2005 to recent and I have no record of every making a visa payment. I am thinking this isn't even my account.

Next I get a letter saying they are contacting a Sheriff for a Sheriff sale on my property. I didn't want that to happen so I called and they said they would settle for $2000. That is a big difference. They wanted $1000 now and then payments every month for the next year. I don't have the money to make these payments and I borrow the $1000 not knowing how I will ever pay it back.

I am contacting a lawyer now to get my $1000 back and stop the payments.
