Gypsy Conman Poses as Jewish to Rip People Off

Smirnoff has a long track record of being arrested locally and charged with criminal offenses and sued for indebtedness. However, over the last 12 months or so, his behavior has becoming increasingly erratic and potentially violent, so much so that concerned local residents consider it necessary to send out this warning to alert others to the potential danger that he represents.

On the criminal side, Smirnoff has been arrested at least six times by local police over the last ten years under a variety of names that he uses and charged with a range of offenses, including loitering and prowling, issuing worthless checks, fraud, theft, cocaine possession, possession of a stolen drivers license, uttering a forged instrument, and illegally recording conversations.

On the civil side, he has been involved in more than 40 cases at Miami-Dade and Broward Circuit Court since the 1970s, usually as a defendant sued by others who claim he owes them money, often substantial amounts. One of his victims was an elderly woman. Additionally, Smirnoff has filed at least seven frivolous restraining orders against various people over the years. Most of these were dismissed.

Smirnoff uses a variety of names and aliases and several dates of birth when conducting his dubious activities. He legally changed his name from Marc Bryant Reidler to Bear Smirnoff in 1992. Other names he has used are Marc Rowmanoff, Marc Reid, Bear Dov Smirnoff, Bear Dou Smirnoff, Dov Bear Smirnoff, and Bear Smirnoffi.

Reliable sources confirm that Smirnoff is a gypsy from the New York area who is passing himself off locally as a religious Jew and using that cover to take advantage of innocent people in Miami Beach.

Smirnoff continues to stalk and threaten members of this community with seeming impunity. Most recently, Smirnoff has made overt threats to a rabbi, distributed libelous flyers regarding a prominent member of our community, threatened the children of a candidate for the city commission, and made a false police report resulting in the arrest of an innocent person. He has also recently filed three false restraining orders against people in the community who have confronted him.

In the past year, he was being investigated by the Miami Beach police department for homicide. Smirnoff is a very smooth talker and appears to be eminently reasonable and respectable. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT HE IS A DANGEROUS AND POSSIBLY ARMED INDIVIDUAL AND SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED.

Many prominent members of the community are trying to make law enforcement deal with this situation. The reason Smirnoff has been able to get away with his crimes and lies for so long is that individual victims have not had the courage to take action against him. Please warn other miami beach residents about this dangerous person.
