Vista Federal Credit Union
Overdraft charges, and changing policies ripoff

Education & Science

I joined this credit union when I began participating in the Disney College, typical of the Company to want their hands in everything that belongs to their employees. Young and naive that I was I beleived that they would look out for their cast members. After finishing the program I returned home and they froze my account after mail had been returned to them, because I was no longer at the address.

When I joined we were told that the bank would automatically transfer funds from savings to checking if we were overdrawn, and we could do this as much as we wanted with no peanlty. We were also told that we could withdraw money from any ATM with no fees, and that we would be reimbursed for up to $7.00 a month for other banks ATM charges. I moved back to FLorida and re-opened my account.

In that first month I received $100 in overdraft charges, when I had money in my savings account. I called to dispute these charges, and after a long phonecall and being transferred to a few people I was reimbursed for only 2 of the 4 charges, even though I was never made aware of any policy changes, which I was sure to mention in the phone call.

A year later I noticed that when I went to NY I was charged a fee from Vista for all my ATM transactions. A few months later I found some new overdraft fees on my account that made no sense. I made two purchases in one day, and of course instead of allowing one charge to go through they put money on hold to wait for one charge to clear (which was actually my second charge of the day) and then considered my account overdrawn for the other transaction.

However, Instead of putting funds on hold for the entire amount of the second transaction they only held abnout half, which in turn caused both transactions to be poverdrawn and I got fees for both. At this point I should have realized that this was not the bank for me, and I should have moved elsewhere, I actually did go to antoher bank to talk about opening an account, but keft because I was short on time, and didn't return.
To my surprise I went online to check my account this month, and found 14 "courtesy pay" charges on my account totaling $350 for chrages made all week, when there was no longer money in my account.

I am completely at a loss of what to do, I was physically ill upon seeing these fees, the bank manager himself might has well have just robbed me at gunpoint for the violation I feel at this. This money was not even truley mine but rathyer the remnants of a financial aid check that I recieved over a month later than expected, to pay for school.

I absolutely cannot afford to just throw away $350 and I feel at a complete loss for hope. The thing I do not understand is why they did not just decline my card after the first day of charges, and how come in the 5 days between charges I did not receive even one overdraft slip in the mail. Please help me, I have not been able to shake this slump of depression since reading the news.
