Scam Artist Ripoff

In the website Television Without Pity opened a tape trading board. I saw a post from someone claiming to have soap opera tapes from the early 90's. I contacted the person and asked if they had General Hospital Tapes from October of 1993 (specifically, the last week of the month), as was told that they did.

Warning Sign #1: When I asked if I could purchase only a week's worth of tapes, the person (who had by then identified themselves as Remigius Rozzga of Poland), insisted on selling me the full month and all but ignored my efforts at compromise, only responding to me when I finally agreed to buy the entire month.

Warning Sign #2: When it came to payment, the amount requested was reasonable ($60), but she (I assumed the person was a female) insisted that I send the money via Western Union. I didn't want to do this as I knew it would be expensive, and told her as such, offering to mail her a check or money order. Again, she ignored me until I agreed to do want she wanted.

So, I wired her the money, she told me that she mailed the package the day after receiving it, and I waited. And waited. And waited. I e-mailed her, asking what was taking so long, and she gave me vague answers. I wasn't entirely suspicious, because I assumed that it would take long, coming from an overseas location.

Finally, I e-mailed her to ask if there was any chance that the package had been returned to her and offered to pay for it to be sent via DHL or FedEx. She responded instantly, telling me that the package had been returned to her as undeliverable and that she would be happy to send it to me via DHL or FedEx, and that I should wire her $40 to pay for it.

Warning Sign #3: By this point, I was very suspicious, and told her to simply check the box marked bill to sender on the DHL or FedEx form and that *I* would pay for the package when it arrived. She gave me some lame excuse as to why she couldnt do that and once again, ignored me until it became obvious that I had to do what she wanted. Annoyed, angry, but still wanting the tapes, I foolishly wired her the money.

She e-mailed to tell me that she would send the package by the end of the week.

I never heard from her again.

Until when a woman whom I had purchased DVDs from (an honest, decent person) e-mailed me and her other customers to tell us that she had been conned in an attempt to buy 1990 General Hospital tapes, and that when she tried to warn others about this person, they retaliated by trying to destroy her reputation. Imagine my shock when I read the name (Rozzga) and the location (Poland) of the thief.

And imagine my shock when I typed the name into the Google search engine and found that this person has been at it for years, showing up on all sorts of tape trading boards, frequently changing his/her name or e-mail, but never the location (somewhere in Poland), or the MO (everything Ive described here).
