Telemarketer Scam - gas coupons ripoff

Received multiple calls from company called "Variety", did a search on their number 727-252-0431 and found that it is in Clear Water, FL. The rep called offering me some gas coupons free of charge. He wanted me to confirm my address so I said yes once he stated it. Then he ask me for my bank and I stated it. Once he asked me if it had been open in the city I resided in, I told him that I wasn't comfortable releasing the information over the phone.

I knew then, once they get your bank routing number and have all the other information like your name and address, it's a for sure chance that they can get your bank account number to send electronic charges/drafts on your account. So in return, he stated that he was only trying to send me some coupons for gas for free. I advised him that nothing is free and hung up the phone. I pulled their name up on RipOff and true enough, it's out here for the same exact thing.

So people, be aware. I am checking my bank account number online to make sure nothing trys to go through unknowingly. Thankfully, I didn't open up my account in the current city I reside in because obtaining a routing number is easy for banks and some banks will release money from your account even when the company whom sends the drafts in has the incorrect bank account. The banks will let it go through if they provide enough information on you. I have had it to happen to me plenty of times with several large banks.
