Ripoff unsolicited Spanish language course from ONLINGO after cancelling online transaction describing a free language course ripoff

Education & Science

I received an unsolicited Spanish language course in the mail after I CANCELED an online registration for a free course. The materials (2 Audio CD's, interactive CD-ROM, and Learning Guide) arrived via U.S. Postal Service. The material stated that this was a 'FREE 10-day trial period'. While they - ONLINGO - provided a phone number and internet address, they did not provide an Email address and made it impossible to copy the Email I sent to them using their customer service function to my computer.

Once I sent the Email, a screen came up telling me the address to which I could return the materials, but stated that unopened material with a 'return to sender' would not be accepted. So now I've got to PAY to return this unsolicited material for a course I did want and did not request. Whether they will accept the return or not remains to be seen.

This whole mess seems to be just a bit shady. If they do not accept the return and bill me for any materials or services, I will contact a lawyer and see if there is a legal remedy for this patently unethical, deceptive, and dishonest marketing practice. The caveat of 'Buyer Beware' doesn't seem to apply as I never 'Bought' anything. I wonder if the F.C.C. Is aware of this company and their practices?
