Direct Federal Credit Union
Cashiers check scam

Education & Science

An individual named mark bill who lives in canada wanted to buy a vintage game from us. He made an offer for $800 which we accepted. He sent us a cashiers check for 3,600.2,600 was to be sent western union immediately to:
paul henry 11020 blundell road richmond bc v6y1l3 1,600
and mike jones 11207 103 avenue nw edmonton ab t5k2v9 1,000. This was supposed to be for shipping of the vintage game. The bank listed on the cashiers check says direct federal credit union in waltham mas 02154. Tel no. 780 695 2729. I called the bank tel no. And someone answered the phone and asked me the routing no. And bank no. On the cashiers check. She said the cashiers check was legitimate and the funds were available. I called information and there was no bank by that name in waltham ma.

There is a legitimate bank called direct federal credit union in ma and i called them. They said the cashiers check was a scam and the bank on the check did not exist. The cashiers check lists kevin smith as the remitter.

I did not send the fund via western union so i'm not out the 2,600 but i came close to being scammed. I can't believe these people actually set up an answering service for a fraudulent bank. This must be a pretty large scam to do that. I am reporting this to make others aware of this scam.
