Kaplan University
Ripoff, fraud

I enrolled in Kaplan University looking forward to the online experience. When I spoke with Joy (the one who enrolled me), she told me that I would be getting professors for each class, and two seminars a week. I was also under the impression that I would have to pay that amount and then get my degree. No, I had to then pay out way more for each semester, which is part my fault for not looking into it, and part hers for not explaining it.

The first week, the first professor was booted for about 15 minutes and when the second seminar rolled around, the other professor wasn't even there for the seminar. She wasnt answering emails, she didn't even show up at all. My questions I had for the class were never answered.

I called Joy and told her my professor never showed up and she then informs me that Kaplan was trying to do away with seminars all together. Did I get told this when I enrolled a week before? No. I told her I no longer wished to be a part of Kaplan and on November 1st I recieved a letter stating that they were sorry I dropped out.

I called finacial aid and asked them if I would owe anything and they said they didnt think so. They told me that I would recieve a final invoice in a few weeks. I recieved an invoice three months later stating I owed them half the pell grant for $1297 dollars. I refused to pay and told them to go ahead and send me to collection.

Well, today is April 26th, and they have still not sent me to collection, but they call my house everyday. They told me recently that they did an "adjustment" and that I would have to pay $300 something, but still have not seen that in writting. They just sent me another bill a couple of days ago, after he called, still stating that I owed $1297 dollars. I was wondering how long they had before they sent this to collection?

I think what they did was considered a form of fraud. Joy told me I was getting something in which I never recieved. How am I supposed to do my work, when I don't have someone available to answer my questions?

So, that is my experience with Kaplan University.
