Calvary Portfolio Services has sent 3 or 4 bills, saying that they are collecting on a Sprint bill under my daughter's name, in the amount of $385.73. I called them last week to inquire about the bill, since my daughter has never had a phone in her name, nor have we, her family, ever used Sprint in the past. My daughter is also 19 years old. They told me that they are a collection agency; the account was opened up in 2001 (my daughter would have been only 16 years old when the account would have been opened).
I explained this to them, and they said that they would send me out some paperwork to file a fraud statement of dispute stating that my daughter has been a victim of identity theft. I received the paperwork on Friday of last week. I DO NOT plan to fill out and send in this private/personal information to Calvary where they want me to provide them with a copy of my daughter's Social Security card, driver's license, and actual proof of residence at the time when the account was established, such as a bank statement or tax documentation.
I believe that Calvary is trying to commit a crime of identity theft by asking for this type of information, and I want to report them so other people will not fall prey to their unsrupulous demands. I do not want my daughter's credit report to be effected by this company.
