Collect telephone fees RIPOFF

My most recent telephone statement lists a charge from an unknown-to-me company by the name of ILD Teleservices. Upon further investigation, numerous phone calls, it has been determined that ILD Teleservices is an aggregator for TELEMEX, LTD., a company located in Corona, CA.

Approximately six weeks prior, a collect call was placed via a payphone at a local mall to my home, as I had no pocket change. The charges applied to my month-end phone statement for this 2-3 minute call were $ 23.69.

TELEMEX insists that a pre-recorded message outlining a number of options was played to me, the collect caller, as well as to my daughter, the collect call acceptor. Neither is true. Had such a message been played as TELEMEX insists, which listed options & one being the potential charges for the collect call, I would have ended the call. Furthermore, the TELEMEX representative insisted that her company assumes that the call desired is an "operator assisted" which then costs close to $ 6.00 per minute. Who, in their right mind, or for that matter, in any other mindset, would accept such a charge?

While we cannot go back in time and have Judge Green reverse his deregulation of the Ma Bells, it does point up that these less than forthcoming companies can take unfair advantage of the public without the public even knowing.

Having investigated this website, I learned that the charges can be removed from one's telephone bill, and that one may receive accommodations from the offending conmpanies, as well as one can contact the BBB, the FTC and the state Atty. General to file complaints on the aforementioned activity.
