Ripoff students beware Billing problems go foreve

In November 1998, my husband enrolled in Liberty U's external degree program. He called and withdrew his application almost immediately, having decided to attend a local college.

We were told "no problem" and thought everything was okay. It wasn't. We were hit with a bill almost immediately. My husband never received a video, book or anything because he withdrew before anything was even shipped.

Many phone calls later, we were told it was taken care of; it was a bookkeeping mistake.

Two years past and behold a call from a collection agency. Pay or else. We refused to deal with them. Again contacting Liberty. Once again everything was supposedly taken care of.

After almost six years, we are again being dogged by another collection agency. We told them that we disputed this bill. Their response has been "pay up" or efforts will escalate to collect. It is only $440. Not worth ruining credit yada, yada, yada.

I contacted Liberty directly August 16 and spoke to Jason Medaugh. After our conversation, I again felt this matter would be quickly resolved. Not! Despite numerous e-mails this is still unresolved.

They are saying we need to pay for the pell grant Tracy received to attend. Despite having withdrawn his application in the course of a couple of weeks and having been told that it was within the time to receive a full refund, six years later the bill continues to roll in.

Jason Medaugh, to whom I spoke on the phone and by e-mail, no longer finds it necessary to repond to e-mail. I am fed up and angry about this rip off done in Jesus' name.

A friend of ours who attended Liberty on campus has run into similar problems. It took him years to straighten out his bill.

I warn anyone considering this program to BEWARE. Get everything in writing or don't go there at all.
