Time of verification process/lack of communication

KHEAA is in charge of handling a process called "verification" upon submission of the FAFSA. Not everyone has to participate in verification, but I have yet to meet anyone who has avoided it. My son is enrolled at Western Kentucky University. We filed his FAFSA on January 8 (the first possible date to file is 1/1). As I write this, it is the 15th of September. We have yet to receive his financial aid package due to KHEAA's "processing". If I contact them by email they send an automated response promising a personal reply within 48 hours. On multiple occasions I have received the auto reply and then nothing more.
