Reliable Service Company
NON-Tech Technician

Construction & Repair

In 5 months I will celebrate my 36th year in the electrical/motor control industry. My heater failed, so I went to the Internet to get a print and find the problem. Followed the wiring diagram and was able to test all the limits and switches in about 15-20 minutes. The gas valve wasnt closing, but I was getting voltage to the valve. So, I replaced the valve and still it wouldnt start. I figured there might be something I was over looking and decided to get someone out who knows HVAC.

I called Reliable Service Co. They had a big ad in my local yellow pages. I thought they would be located locally. The technician showed up 8 minutes before the close of the 4-hour window they had given me. Took him down
to the to the heater and the first thing out of his mouth, Is this the original heater?

He pushed the door safety switch and the heater didnt start. All the while hes telling me about the great deal they have on replacement furnaces. Once one part goes bad on these old furnaces, they can nickel and dime you to death, said the technician.in less then 3 minutes he has decided I need a new furnace. Hasnt tested anything, didnt use a meter to check voltages, continuity, or any test points, just looked inside the heater and states he has never seen anything like it. He has to call his manager. A technician who never saw a heater fail?

When I mentioned that I had replaced the gas valve, he says, oh, it must be the circuit board that needs replacing. Let me call my manager. Still hasnt done anything but look at the heater.

They should be ashamed to call their workers Technicians. They state Quality Workmanship. No! They are salesmen, plain and simple. Not once did he test a thing!!!

Oh, I was told that they could replace the circuit board for $780.00. I found a new board on the Internet for $199. I removed mine in 4 minutes, to check the numbers. They wanted $581 to pull out the old board and put the new one in. The worker that showed up at my house had no idea what he was doing, but he had no problem asking for his $49.95 service charge. Only problem is he never did any service. Never did any testing. All he did was watch the heater not work, and try to sell me a new heater.
