Sheehan Plumbing unauthorized work, overcharged, doesn't return calls

I called Sheehan Plumbing to check out a possible leak.

Derrick (the owner) assured me that he would send a guy over to check it out and call me before they start any work (I was at work while they were coming but my friend was there to let the plumber in) and discuss the situation. I waited for most of the day but I never receied any call. When I got home, I found that they outright replaced my hot water tank and didn't even bother to call me. I phoned Derrick and he told me I owed him $1100 for the hot water tank replacement. I was mad because I never authorized the work and at $1100 it was $400 more than what his competitors are charging. Because the work was already done there was little I could do but pay the bill. When I complained I was threatened with a lien against my house if I didn't pay and they would make my life difficult.

I asked for a copy of the invoice but he never sent it. I asked for a copy of the permit which he claimed to get from the city and he never sent it. I checked with the city of Port Moody and they claim there was no permit taken out. I essentially paid for a $75 permit that was never taken out. I have phoned him multiple time and emailed as well but he has resorted to ignoring my calls and emails. I have talked to his wife (his bookkeeper) and she just keeps repeating the same line (Derrick will call you back, or I have to check with Derrick and we will send the invoice right away). Same lines, same lies. It's been 10 months of dealing with this contractor.

The worse part is that after they installed the hot water tank the taps in my bathrooms started to make this awful screeching sound when I turned them on. I had to call another plumber to come in and fix the mess left by Sheehan Plumbing. The leak was never caused by the hot water tank it was caused by a small split in the piping feeding the hot water tank. I essentially paid $1100 for nothing!!! I have been calling to get this resolved but they will not return my calls. Do not use derrick from sheehan plumbing. You will be billed for unnecessary work.
