Value City Furniture
Bad business Want to hold your money but don't want to deliver promised goods

Construction & Repair

Let me start by saying that I at one time worked for an appliance, electronics, and furniture store in Evansville, (not Value City). I had heard "horror" stories from people that came into my former employeer about Value City and from friends that had bought items from them, so it was my fault I didn't listen.

I purchased a living room suit from my local Value City outlet and did purchase a set that was more expensive than I originally wanted to but I did like it better so no problem. I told the sales associate that I would not be ready for it for about 2 months and he replied that this would be fine. He would have the furniture ordered and make sure it was ready for me when I needed it. All he asked was that I call him about a week prior to picking it up. Yes I was going to pick it up as I, working for their competitor at one time, was familiar with doing deliveries and it was not worth the $65.00 that they wanted to move furniture less than 4 miles.

As asked, I called a week before I would be picking it up (actually it was 10 days prior). Talked to my salesman and told him that I would be there and all he said was great.

1 Day before I was to get my furniture, (already having moved into the new house and disposing of my old furniture) I was called and told that the items I purchased where no longer available. I understand about using distribution centers, makes sense, however, the furniture I ordered was in stock at the time I purchased (so I was told) and it would be tagged for me. This needless to say, didn't happen.

I went to the store to see if I could find something else I liked but didn't see anything that I felt would fit my style and living room area. My salesman during this time did not want to talk to me instead he was interested in a game score from the previous weekend. After finally getting him to talk to me all he could offer me was the same furniture in a different color.

I am a little upset at this time but still am trying to understand. I then ask him for a refund so I can purchase furniture for the new house, (remember, I have no furniture in my new house). Get to the counter and I am told that they will not issue me a check there and that it will have to come out of their coperate office and it will take them 10 to 14 business days to mail it out. Now I am upset. They are going to hold my money like a bank for me with no interest and it is going to be possibly a month before I get my money back.

Now this purchase was not a large purchase it was just a living room suit that cost about $1600.00. I am sure this is not a dent for the company as a whole but still just burns me.

I get to scramble to find new furniture for the house and with everything I have had to spend getting this house I get to find it on a lower budget since I can't have my money back for a month.

Buyer-beware!!!
