We had a simular situation to everyone else I have talked to.
He lies about having a city permit.
Then he lies to the city and tells them he told you to get it.
Then he tries to charge you extra for the permit.
He takes a huge amount upfront.
Before it is 1/3 done he claims he needs more money for material.
Then he needs money to pay the contractors or they are going to walk from your job... That is once you can get him to actually show up!
The city then stopped by and informed me that he had not had any of the required inspections and they may need to tear the whole thing up and start over...
The rebar was not installed correctly
The concrete puddles
There are no predetermined crack lines in the large slab
He did not attatch the new concrete to the exsisting concrete with rebar
The gas lines that were run and hooked up were extrememly dangerous the way he did it!
A 20' x 30' large arbor was not ever attached to the house, just laid on the roof (was told that a big wind would have brought the whole thing down!
The fireplace was so far from passing code it was a joke!
The workmanship (although I thought it looked good) I was told by several contractors it was terrible!

I would suggest anyone else do you work but him.

Contacted the magazine I got his name from. They did not care
Contacted the city - they can do nothing
Was told I could take it to court and we would win the lien, but his house is not in his name and he is not legally required to pay the lien
I am looking into criminal charges... Not sure how that works, but this was bad enough and I have heard there are several others out there with the same or worse stories. (REDACTED)
