The Room Store Poor ordering practice Ripoff poor customer service lousy communication

Let me start by saying, my compliant is not with the salesperson as the have limited control over ordering and shipping practices.

My compliant is with the store's odering practices and misleading advertisement to include sub-par communication.

My husband and I visited the room-store in mid October. We saw a very modern, attractive leather living room set, that we hadn't seen in any other store in the area. The salepersons were very friendly and seemed very knowledgeable. The floor model leather living room set was in white and we were informed that any other color would be custom order with a delivery time of 8 to 12 weeks. We were comfortable with the delivery time as our new home would not be finished until Feb. We placed an order for the custom leather furniture in black and put a down-payment of $900 dollars on the furniture.

Moving forward to the end of December, I had not received any phone calls from the salepersons regarding my order, so I called after Christmas, I was told the furniture was being shipped and should be in mid January.

Called again at the end of January after not receiving any update information, once again I was told the furniture was due to arrive any day.

Now it's February 16th and I call to find out the status, spoke with the orginial salesperson and was told he would check and give me a call the next day. Well I was contacted the next day and was informed that the sofa was in the warehouse but the couch had been sent back because it was the wrong color. The salesman proceeded to tell me that the couch would be in maybe the middle or end of April and for my inconvenience they would give me a $200 discount. However he could not make any guarantees that the furniture would arrival in April. As some of you might know custom ordered furniture is shipped in full containers and if there is not a full container the furniture will not be shipped. At this point he told me if I was dissatified with this, I could have my deposit refunded in 10 business days.

My compliant is that I order the furniture in October and it has taken five months to find out the true status of shipment and may take 7-8 months to actually receive the furniture because there is no guarantee on delivery dates.

Let me also say, that when advertising, they should include in the text that 95% of the products are special order and are not kept in stock in the warehouse.

To date I have spent five months of wasted time on furniture, I may or may not receive in another two months. All totaled 7 months of wasted time and now my new house will not have living room furniture, after I took the time to pre-order furniture to coincide with my move in date.

Any other decent furniture store would have tried to accomodate with a loaner living room set for my hassle in addition to a fair discount price. I have told the story to the North Carolina store, and Decorum. These stores also have a 3-4 month wait for custom ordered furniture but had the decency to offer me loaner furniture, until my custom furniture arrived.

I am now waiting to see if I get my refund in the 10 days as promised.

I am truly disappointed in the quality of service and shabby treatment of a consumer, who was willing to wait and spend $3,000 dollars on two pieces of furniture. I'm also appalled at the number of compliants similar to mines, all across the United States, against the room-store.

Thank God for the internet and that I happened to do a search for the room-store.
