Bruce Batten Ripped us off for $7500, then threatened our lives and property. Costilla County in Colorado listed him on their website under every category for registered contractor even though they knew about him

We gave him $7500 for materials and labor for the start of building our home. A week later he wanted $1000 more. We checked to see if he ordered any materials, he did not nor did he do any work yet.
When we asked for him to return the money he became verbally profane and abusive. He then threatened to kill me, my wife and to destroy our property.
I reported it to Police and he denied everything.
We are now pursuing Small Claims Courts but the Police here are not good at finding him to serve the summons.
He is under every Registered Contractor category on the Costilla County Colorado website so we thought he'd be good. We since called the county to let them know about this scumbag; turns out they know all about him but allow him free advertisement because he pays his fees.
Beware of this Scam Artist and the incompetents that enable him.
