Oakcreek Homes, Sanger, Texas deceptive misrepresented on manufactured home and cash rewards

Construction & Repair

My husband and I purchased a home from Oak Creek Manufactured Homes out of SangeR, Texas in 2008. We had looked at several different styles and manufacturers before we found ourselves on the dealer lot in Sanger, Texas and walking through a very beautifully built and reasonably priced home. We were told this home had been bought and the financing fell through and they just wanted to get it off the lot. We were hooked. The home was huge, perfect... A really nice home. We went inside, did some initial paperwork, got floor plans to show our children who were still at home in Oklahoma and made a small down payment on this particular home. Easy enough, right? Hah, not so fast.

We left that day and were excited to get home to tell our family. A while later, we received a call that we were approved for financing and they were doing an appraisal and would get back with us... They did. When they called they said the market in Oklahoma was depressed and an appraisal did not qualify us for that particular home we had been hooked by, the one on the lot. We were told we would have to take a slightly smaller home that was actually a modular home (supposedly better made) as it would be worth more than a 'double wide' would have been. The price would be different too, more.

We went down to the dealer and after some thought we decided to go with the home. Financing funded, we closed, the home went to production, etc. Now, mind you... The home we initially looked at was not the same home we settled on and that initial home was 'pristine' on their lot. Beautiful, well made, perfect...

The home we took delivery of was not near what we were expecting.in short, the cabinets are made of chip board, the doors of the cabinets are hard wood and too heavy for the chip board. The home is solid but the interior walls are paper thin. We had 'ordered' tape and texture... What we got was less than half tape and texture and the plaster is flaking off the walls. We got all the appliances and the wash machine is absolute junk.

We also were told we would get a Cash Reward of 10K dollars but had to follow certain rules to a tee. We are a few months from that three year mark in sending that off but have just found out that the company who backed that Cash Reward program is actually now out of business and effectively bankrupt.

So... What to do? We were screwed by Oak Creek, owe a lot on a home that needs work on it and the 10K we were hoping to get looks like a sham too...

Some how I am finding it hard to just let this go... The crappy workmanship on the home seemed workable with the 10K dollars coming but since that is a no-go... Something needs to happen.

Bait and change, deception, misleading, poor quality... And the list goes on and on.
