Cornwell Tools
Lost paper work and sudden change in account balance after two years using different debt collectors

Construction & Repair

I was contacted today by CPC telling me that I owed Cornwell Tools over $800 and that they could settle for $400 and change if I paid now. I haven't purchased from Conwell tools in at least 6 years.

At the end of 2008 I was first contacted aboutthe debt from GOV Lawfirm, I was out ofworkat the time. The lady on the phone was less than nice and over the course of several months we had come to an arrangement to settle this debt out of court, I had to make payments as I couldn't clear it all in one check.

From about December to March I had made my 3 payments, beforesending the final payment I had called to verify that this was it and I would no longer be harrassed about this. I asked the lady from GOV multipile times to make sure that Iwould nolonger owe any money, I sent the last payment in (over $600) to clear my name. They sent me paper workstating thatthey recieved it which Ikept for a little while.

Today on the phone with CPC I was told that they couldn't help if I couldn't provide that paper work, this istwo yearsafter my first payment. I did manage to find my last money order that I sent them, with my hand writtennote stating GOV Law and Final Payment.

Upon calling Money Gram, I asked if they could look up the money order. They did it for free whichis great, and they told me that the money order had been cashed. They also informed me that for a fee I can get a copy of the money order both the front and back side sent to me.

When I called CPC about this, they informed me that they got the account in 2010. My last payment was in March of the guy seemed supprisedwhenItold him who I had paid in that it was a law firm.

Now I'm stuck as I can't rember the contact info. For the law firm, if I had that then I'd be asking for proof from them so I could send it to this other place.

Long story short is that Cornwell Tools has used two different debt collectors to try to collect ona paid debt. Why am Ibeing contacted because they lostpaperwork? Yes I did loose my copy but after two years I didn't figure I'd need it.

If you're in an industry that uses CornwellTools I suggest that you paycash for your account and close it out, and keep the recipt. I'd ask my friends in the automotive industry to get rid of theirsales reps, their tools aren't any different than their competition.

I have also filed a complaint with the BBB on this matter.
