Well here goes. Two years ago my wife and I bought a Double Wide home from Oakwood in El Paso, TX. Our dream home was brought and set up in Chaparral, NM.
Immediately we started finding problems with the home. It is set up on concret footings as this was a land/home purchase. One half is lower than the other by enough that you can feel the interior seam. The carpeting is buckled in many places and when the wind blows from the right direction the kitchen floor bubbles up about 4 inches. The doors between the master bedroom and master bath are off set as well as the front door and storm door. I have been told that the necessary repairs are not covered by the warranty because I reported it too late.
Now comes the final act. My credit was not good when I purchased the home and due to my own fault I fell behind a payment. Oakwood acceptance keeps telling me I am two payments behind even though I have been paying monthly with the exception of the one payment. I worked out a payment plan with them to make up the back payment. I HAVE THAT IN WRITING.
Now they tell me that that agreement is null and void and on one account I must pay 1993.00 and on the other 2008.41. They of course want it all right now. The regular payments are 993.60 per month. The house is not worth half of that amount and I only wish I had looked them up on the internet.
I am contacting an attorney and plan a lawsuit even though they have filed bankruptcy. (sorry for the lousy spelling) They have told me they are taking legal action and will send a notice of foreclosure. My wife cannot work due to being handicapped and I am a disabled vietnam vet. Thank You Oakwood.
