The Metal Ware Corporation Nesco 6 quart roaster gives off bad odor upon heating. The 'burn out' instructions do not work

Construction & Repair

Approximately a week before Thanksgiving of this year I bought a Nesco 6 qt. Roaster at Sears. Sears was very prompt in delivery. I expected to cook our Thanksgiving turkey in the roaster. The instructions in the Nesco booklet say to let it cook empty at 425 degrees, in a well ventilated area before using, specifically - "... Operate the roaster oven empty (without the Cookwell or Cover) for approximately minutes, or until any odor or smoking disappear. Some smoke and odor are a normal part of 'curing' the element and will not reoccur in cooking use".
The ripoff is that I did just as instructed and the next day, just to be sure, I let it heat up before I decided to put food in the roaster. You would believe the stinky fumes and odor. So I go through the steps again to 'cure' the elements. One hour each time. I have been doing this this now for 3 weeks, three times a day, and still the Nesco Roaster Oven is unusable due to the fumes.
