Today I received a phone call on my cell phone from an 800 #. I have been getting these calls a lot lately for someone I don't even know, so I answered thinking I would be asking another person to please remove my # from their system. I answered and was immediately greeted by a recording to please hold and that an operator would be with me shortly. A woman picked up and asked for me. I verified that I was who she was asking for and I asked who she was. She did not give me a name, she only said that she was calling for CBCS and was attempting to collect a debt. She asked me for my address; if she really had my information and was really collecting a debt wouldn't she have that?! So, I asked her to please give me the address she has on file and I would confirm or deny it. She refused. I asked again, she refused again. She told me "that is not how this works, I am trying to collect a debt for Nicor Gas and you need to make full payment today".

I said I was not aware of this debt. She told me that they have contacted me previously and that I was very much aware of the debt. I asked her WHEN they contacted me - she did not answer, she just asked me for my address again. I again refused, at which time she yelled at me saying "come on. You KNOW about this debt. Don't be such a piece of trash, why don't you just pay your bills?" I immediately asked for a supervisor. I was put on hold for nearly 8 minutes.

A man gets on the line calling himself "King", and rudely asked me why the call had been transferred to him (something tells me within that 8 minute hold time he got a load of crap from her and he was aware of what happened). I told him I did not appreciate the way the previous girl had spoken to me and I would not deal with anyone being so rude to me. His response was "well, you do have an account in collections with us, so the assumption is there". I asked if he was defending that girls actions and if so, I wanted HIS supervisor. He mumbled out a 'no' and he then asked me for my address and credit card or check information to pay the account off. I told him I would not make any payments without some sort of information sent to my home. He said "that is not how this works, we call you, you pay the bill. If you want to have something sent to you, you need to request it in writing." I asked for their mailing address and he told me to 'look it up'. He again asked for a payment and I again refused, telling him until I had proof of this account I would NOT make any payments. He mumbled a few things I couldn't understand and then hung up on me.
