Trane Residential Air Conditioning
TRANE Bought a completely new 2.75 ton system 5.5 years ago. Manufacturing defect has caused a $795.00 repair bill, just for labor

Construction & Repair

Whatever you do avoid any home a.C. Systems from trane! No matter what they say!
I had a Trane A.C. System installed new 5.5 years ago. It's undergone routine professional maintenance since new. This week I came home to find it blowing warm air. After a call to the installation company for service I was informed that the problem is due to a manufacturing or factory assembly defect with Trane. The expansion valve powerhead is installed up against and with constant pressure against the coils. The slight vibration while it runs has cause the powerhead to completely wear it's way through the aluminum coil fins and then through the aluminum coil itself.
The real problem is that because TRANE uses aluminum for it's coils instead of the more common and far more durable and VERY repairable copper, it can not be safely repaired. The entire set of coils must be replaced.
This was the same answer I received after three more estimates and much research. Worse yet, even though the parts are still under warranty, the original installation company quoted us $700.00 just for labor and had the stones to charge $95.00 for their less than 30 minute diagnosis and wouldn't even reduce the repair cost if we chose them to repair it. But that's another rip off story, they are on my list and I'll deal with them next.
The bottom line is this, after contacting the fine folks at TRANE, They refuse to accept any responsibility for the design flaw. I saw it first hand, It should never have been assembled the way it was. There was no way anyone could have caused this other than the fine folks at TRANE and according to other A. C companies I spoke with, they said it's not the first time they have seen it with TRANE.
The fact that they use Aluminum coils should be enough to steer you very clear from ever considering using them but the fact that they absolutely refuse to accept any responsibility for their obvious design flaw and you'll have to absorb an expense should be enough warning. Save yourself a lot of trouble and expense.
Don't buy trane!!!
