Terry Dewar began by saying he was a builder when in fact he is a contractor.
His full time job is a mechanic for the school board
He embellishes on how wonderful he is... He'd like you to think he's Mike Homes...
He has been successful during a booming market.
He will buy two lots, and build two houses simultaneously.
He builds expensive spec homes in good areas using substandard materials and workmanship. He may have a great floor plan with all the potential in the world to be a classy home, but then he'll ruin it with cheap materials.
For example he installed granite counters but made them only 24" deep.
Then he built the cupboards around them producing a very shallow cupboard.
He buys defective hardwood which doesn't fit well, has color defects, and will even install cracked boards. He hopes you wont notice.
He'll cheap out on the entrance door on the home he sells you.
The carpet he'll choose will be an absolute joke.
Look for door trim sitting 1/2 inch off the floor, cracked door edges.
When it comes time for occupancy he says towel racks and shower doors are personal preference, along with pantry shelves, and closet racks.
He hires his own family to do some of the interior finishing and landscaping.
It's a bit of a joke that he will help himself to aggregate from a local developer.
The yard won't be rolled before the sod goes down.
He promises things to get you to buy then goes back on his word.
Look out during the deficiency inspection... If he is even around t perform it. He will try to get out of taking responsibility for any workmanship defects, or attempt to trade one thing for another. Bottom line it all benefits him. If you call him on it he will go into a rage, and make comments like don't get in a pissing match with me.
If you are brave enough to purchase from this jerk then get everything in writing. If he wont supply specific information run!
You can easily find a real builder who is professional and remembers that you are his customer and will work to make you happy.
