Ripoff - do not think about moving with them, you will pay the price

Recently we moved cross country and my wife and I tried to find an economic way of doing it. We shop around for unexpensive moving companies and we found Classic International. This company gave us a very, very bad service and finally the price was more expensive than a reputable moving company.

How do they do it? Actually they tell you upfront how much you have to pay. Even the day when they arrive to our home, they say that we did not have a lot of items (we got rid of most of our furniture and shipped our books by train so the weight was way below the original budget). After two weeks they contacted us and said that we had to pay more money because our new address was not in their traditional route, and because other unespecified things that were not in the original contract.

The extras amounted almost 600 dollars more than the original price. At first we thought that we had saved money from the price of a regular moving company. However, adding all those extras and the weight of our books (that we shipped apart) the amount for moving was about 400 dollars more than in the Mayflower with all our furniture and books. That is not all, they do not load a single truck, but they load and unload your goods all over the routes. We were informed that our things were in werehouses along the moving road. Guess what happens with your breakable valuables?

And there is nobody to blame, because the person that you see in one side, is only the first person in a long chain of people that deal with your belongnings.

At the moment of the arrival at our new place (18 days later) they told us to pay them with a money order or with cash. We offer a Cashiers check, but they would not accept it.

We were very, very unhappy with their service, because once they upload our things in the first truck, they gave us a pink-slip (nothing else), and generally they avoided any paper trail.

Fortunately we god all our things (many of them broken) but got them all, and also the promise of not hiring them again and let other people know about this. We learned a lesson, if you want to save, it is better if you spend in a reputable company. Do not risk it, it is more expensive at the end.
