How do they get away with it? Ripoff

My husband and I placed an order with Ashley furniture only after reassurances from friends that they had improved their sales practices and were a nicer company to deal with.

There is nothing nice about the following:

1. Receiving furniture that is very obviously damaged and someone knew it, glued it, and passed it off as new.

2. Dealing with sales people who have to "authorize" further transactions regarding an already completed sale with a manager and having to defend our position on not wanting and refusing to accept the furniture in its condition

3. Having the 30% restocking fee thrown in your face even on damaged furniture that never should have been released from the warehouse.

4. Having to spend nearly 8 hours of phone time going from manager to salesperson to manager and up the Ashley food chain to try to get resolution to a situation that never should have happened (mainly because we never should have trusted Ashley)

5. Being told that instead of a refund, we could have a credit and pick out another crummy bedroom set from the same store. None of the were worth the fiberboard they were slapped together with!

The worst part of our dealing with Ashley is that we did. Lesson learned. They are baracudas that are bent on selling cheap furniture no matter what condition it arrives in and are all about no customer service, including their no refunds without nailing on the 30% fee. Only after my husband made sure that other customers were within earshot of him bartering for a refund and making statements regarding the shoddy quality of the furniture did we get a full refund without the 30% fee. I believe they were tired of seeing us and we were tired of seeing them. I realize not many people get Ashley to cough up the full refund, but we fortunately, did.
