Construction & Repair

My fiancee and I purchased an Eastwood Home in October. The home came with a one year applicance or inside warranty and a two year warranty for everything else.

Recently, we noticed that there were puddles of water in our garage. We thought it may have been from the rain. The next day when it was sunny, the water continued to form.

We contacted several plumbers to get an idea of what the problem was. We were told that it was a leak. We were not understanding where the leak was coming from because the house is built on a concrete slab.

Next, we contacted a plumbing and sewer company that told us that it seems to be a leak in the water line. He stated that the concrete may have settled (which contrete is known to do), however, they would know for sure unless they removed a piece of the concrete slab where the water was coming from.

We attempted to call the Quality Builders Warranty Corporation and was given the run-a-round about who we needed to speak to and if they were in or not.

My fiancee called Eastwood Homes Quality Department the following day and was rudely spoken to and was told that it was not their problem, the warranty had expired and was then hung up on!

March 17, we hired the Plumber and Sewer Company to drill through the concrete slab in the garage. They dug a 2 foot hole in length and 2 1/2 feet in width hole; water begin to pour out!

While removing the concrete, the plumber came to where the Main water line was located. To his amazement, he showed us where when the house was initially built, the PLASTIC "main" water line was embedded in the concrete.

He stated that the work was improperly and poorly done. He then stated that "on a house that is built on a concrete slab, that the water pipe is suppose to run underground or so many feet underneath the concrete slab—and neither had been done."

He continued to say that " even if you fix the problem now, who's to say that the plumbing is not the same all through the house; you will have this problem again a month, week or a year from now again, however, it could occur in your kitchen or living room where the pipes are running which you will again have to dig through the concrete slab where ever the problem is; That could cost thousands of dollars!"

After the hole in the "main" water line was repaired, we contacted our homeowners insurance company, Eastwood Homes Quality Department and Quality Builders Warranty Corporation and have not received a call from no one!

My issue is this, the warranty on our home should be null and void because workmanship was poorly done prior to us moving into the house!

We could not use x-ray vision to see that the builders improperly poured concrete on a plastic water line. So why should we responsible for the repairs. How do we know if this problem is going to happen again, costing us more money!

Why should the Warranty be upheld when the quality of the house was poor from the beginning—before we moved in.

We have not received returned calls from anyone. However, since then, we are considering hiring an attorney; I have contacted the BBB and have and will continue to go on every website that I can go on to let consumers know that Eastwood Homes builds poor quality houses. Dont make the mistake we did and buy a LEMON!
