Dishonest, too expensive, ripoff, do all they can to get your money but are of no real help to their tennants

I've lived at Darrow Appartments for two years, and during these two years I've had many problems with them. When we first moved in, the floors were supposed to have been cleaned; they were not, and we even found people's toenails in the carpet. All of the appliances were also bad; for example the toilet was a cheap outdated thing that seemed to want to overflow every time we flushed. When it did overflow and the water wouldn't stop coming no matter what we tried, we called the emergency line (it was after hours) and they told us that we would have to wait until the next day because a flooding toilet that we can't stop is not "enough of an emergency." When someone did finally come to fix it, he commented that it is a horrible and very cheap toilet. Also, the oven is so old that it burned most of our food - when it would work at all.in fact, during our stay there me and my two room mates have had a problem with every single appliance. Whenever we reported a problem with them, it would take at least two weeks (and repeated trips to the office) for anything to get taken care of.

Another problem that we had was that during the winter our roof started leaking through (we lived on the top floor), and their idea of fixing the problem was to put a fresh coat of paint over it.

All this may not have been so bad, but the rent is extremely expensive, and they keep raising it every year. Further, during the winter break, they came into our appartment and turned up the heat in every room to 90 degrees - and since the thing for turning up the heat is 10 degrees off, it was in fact 100 degrees. That month - during we were not there at all - our electric bill was $40 higher than our usuall bill. When we confronted them about this, they of course denied having done anything.

James properties is dishonest, they cut corners as much as they can, and find as many ways of taking your money as possible. After finally moving out, they told me that I had somehow forefit my security deposit of $100 and that they were not going to give it back - but that if I come to live with them again, they would reinstate the deposit. It being that the rent for a very small three bedroom apartment (the smallest room is smaller than half a dormroom) is $1900 a semester (this is one of their cheap apartments, the others are much more), and that any other place in town is much cheaper, I reccomend that everyone save their money and not live with James Properties.
