Best Buy changed return policy and we got caught unawares - Magic Bullet

My wife and I purchased an item for 49.99 at Best Buy on 4/13 (a "Magic Bullet") intending to give it as a gift. We just decided to give something else for the gift and so my wife today (4/30) tried to return the Magic Bullet to the La Habra store from where it was bought in the unopened package and presenting them the original receipt. She was turned away because Best Buy started a "new 15 day return policy" this month. Since it was the 17th day, they refused the return. When a business changes its return policy, as Best Buy apparently has, they should let the customer know about it.

I would like Best Buy to give us permission to return this item since we returned it after the period innocently—not knowing that they had changed their return policy. We have bought many products from Best Buy in the past and think that this would be a common courtesy to us.
