When will my house ever get done?!? No completion date set

About 8 months ago my parents signed their contract (3 actually, but that's another story) with JWH's. After the companies sales rep tried to coerce them not to buy the model they wanted, production began. Sssssslllllloooowwwwwlllllyyyyy!

To this date they still have not drywalled the interior, the building materials used sat in the weather for months on end (uncovered), and then when it was installed, the quality of workmanship is lacking. This could either be incompetence or the fact that they have went through at least three contractors so far.

I am a Certified Home Inspector so after my father fell ill they called me for assistance. What I found is appalling. Thank Goodness I am adept in documentation and report writing skills. My concern however is for the innocent, albeit uneducated consumers.

Be AWARE when builders have you sign a contract for service with no targeted completion date set. Also make sure that there are provisions set forth for you to have an independent third party such as myself, to review the progress of work and submit phase inspections. This one act alone could save thousands of dollars and a whole lot of headaches later.

Back to my parents house, there are still a lot of problems, such as the wrong colored shingles installed, cornices bowed, windows too tight to shut easiliy, etc., but I will resolve these issues eventually. However, I would NOT ever recommend JWH to anyone else. The community I live in is small and word travels fast here, but this is a large corporation.

Too may people rely on local building codes. These are the MINIMUM standards by law. If I were to build a doghouse, it would probably be of better quality than most homes that pass these "inspections". Do NOT rely on your government to protect you, rely on YOURSELF!
