Security Roofing Systems
Inc rip-off! Company not honoring offer of transfer of warranty

Construction & Repair

I bought a brand new roof from Security Roofing Systems (Plantation, FL) in September. This past May I was offered a job within my company that would require me to relocate to Atlanta, GA. I took the job and we put our house up for sale. During the week of closing the new homeowners questioned me about the original warranty on the roof. I told them that I was unsure and would contact Security Roofing to find out about the warranty.

When I first contacted the company they stated the transfer was no problem but there would be a $250 transfer fee. This would extend the remaining eight years of the warranty to the new home owner. I told them that would be ok and asked if they were willing to bring the paperwork to my home to take care of. The next morning I was contacted by Cris Poleac, field supervisor for Security Roofing, who told me he would come by my house and to have a check ready for $300. I told Cris that the company had just told me yesterday that it was only $250. He told me there was nothing he could do and he would be by in about an hour. I had to step out that morning for about 1/2 an hour and when I came home the paperwork had been left on my door and it stated that the transfer was going to be $350.

I again called Security Roofing and spoke with office manager Robin Bidlofsky and she "claimed" the $350 is what they had told me all along. I discussed this with the new homeowner and we both agreed that I would take the paperwork with me to Atlanta and mail them a check. The new homeowner had already signed the paperwork as well as an employee of Security Roofing. I moved to Atlanta on Aug. 12 a day after the paperwork was dropped off. I spoke to the new homeowners on a regular basis and it was a pretty hectic time for both families trying to get moved in. We both finally decided that I would overnite the paperwork back to S Florida so the new homeowners could go make the payment. I sent the document on Sept 9 and it was received on Sept 10.

At that time the new homeowner called Security Roofing and they stated that since Hurricane Francis had come through they were not going to honor their original offer. We were very surprised since Francis never really had any effect on Weston, FL where the property was located. The new homeowners inquired what they could do to get the remaining 8 years that was left on the original warranty. They stated Security Roofing told them it would now cost $1500 instead of the original $350. I felt as the original purchaser of the roof that the figure given was unjustified and borderline "hurricane" extortion. I feel they were using a bad situation to increase their original price only for their company's gain. We were given an offer that had NO stipulations and NO expiration date.

It was only the arbitrary decision of Security Roofing that changed the original offer. I honestly feel that their original warranty should have been transferred to the new homeowner at no cost. I paid for the ten year warranty in the original price of the roof ($13,000), and I feel Security Roofing should stand by it's product and workmanship. Since then Security has sent me a letter stating that the original contract had a stipulation that stated the warranty was non-transferable and they only made the original offer as an exception.

Why then would you make an offer for $350 and take it away and then extend it again for almost three times the amount. How is that making an exception? It sounds to me like a company that is just trying to advantage of the consumer. I would not recommend any company that is not willing to stand up to original offers that are put on the table. I would never use Security Roofing again.
