Possible File Deletion After Windows Update?

Hello.

Yesterday, I was playing a game and things just went fine. When I shut down my computer, I fear something may have happened... Before it got to shut down, I had some Windows Updates that had to be completed.

The next day I came back to the game, only to find that the save files of my games were gone! And not just one game,
but all of them - and I fear that Windows update may have had something to do with it, and that other files might've been deleted as well...
One program I used to add mods to the game (I fear that a "restore previous version" treatment may remove those too)

I don't know how to solve this and I don't want to lose things because of Windows Updates that seemed harmless in the first place!

I hope any of you can help me out with this, as I can't continue from here.
Tried several things, but the save files seem to be gone, and I don't think I wanna know the chance of some other files disappearing either...
