I used to be a sprint customer for almost 10 years. I was only late on my bill once and they did a great job helping me out with MY problem.
This is the issue:
On Sprint's contract if you move to an area that does not have sprint coverage then you are can drop them without an early termination fee.

Here is my story:

I moved to a different area and spent a month trying to get Sprint to call me back. Trying to send them emails, and a fax proving that we moved.in that month I also spent a week being on the phone everyday for 2hours a day, and the last day I spent 7hours with them. I talked to over 12 different people, and 7 of them "promised" they would "take my case personally".in earnestness they said they would call me back with answers to checking up on a fax/email. NO ONE ever called me back. I asked them to take my phone off the plan, they told me they would and that I could use it and it would soon just not work. Bad plan, they later told me if I hadn't used the phone I wouldn't be responsible to pay for those minutes that I already prepaid for. They tried charging late fee's and early termination fees. Although I had never received a bill, and I had been spending the whole month trying to cancel my contract with them.
Through this all there was actually a lot more problems, but I would rather narrow it down.
What was the root problem?

They lie to you. They tell you they will take your case personally... They don't. They tell you they will send you information... They don't. When they do give you an email or fax number to send your information to, it does not do any good, it's false. Even the contract on paper will not "prove" anything to them except in court (which is why you need it)
What is the solution?

UNLESS YOU RECEIVE IN WRITING/ON PAPER FROM SPRINT, THEN DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD THEY SAY. GET IT IN WRITING!
Sorry Sprint for taking over 50 of your customers. However, if you were honest, did not cheat people and bill them for YOUR problems (i.E. Stealing from the poor to make a buck), if you did not lie in order for YOU to look better... Then there would not be a problem.
